Like all shock boots on these 40 year old machines mine were rotted and split. I removed the old ones but hated the look and the grease that would run down the fork. Took and a gamble and it paid off. Now dissembling the fork tubes is not for the faint of heart but you learn a lot from the first side. Just remember, the ring on the tube that looks like a wedding ring must be slid down TOWARD the spring to reveal the clip that holds it in place....I mucked up the first one.
