take note this is supposedly NOT for the A35 96-02 targa and LX, or 98-99 TT classic. so make sure you are careful with your purchase!

ID of axle hole is 12mm

speedo cable threads are 10mm x 1mm

I bought this and paired it with a new cable and the stock speedo dial on my '77 A3. It worked okay at first but was under reporting the speed by 5-10, then after a couple weeks the square drive hole shredded and made the thing useless.
Maybe save your money for a trailtech or a bicycle speedo. After this I'm not keen on mechanical speedos.
