I've had one of these on my general for two years now (not the same one, I think I swapped it once).
No separation or anything. On puchs, I've had like three break. You gotta be careful putting them in the tube - the nipple easily breaks off. Once it's in and you've used it (gas go through it) it will not likely come back out without breaking. If you leave it in the fuel line you're fine.

Like the other users said the paper element separates inside, and the plastic gets brittle. Stay away from these. Mine started to leak after a couple months.

Have bought several of these. Waste of money, the paper cartridge seperates from the plastic and lets all the dirty shit in the needle and seat. Stay with the clear disk filter, way better, this is a pile!
